Based on his 30+ years as a primary care doctor and businessman, Dr. Jones explains clearly what is wrong with our healthcare system, how it became so over-priced and inefficient, and how we can have excellent, affordable health care for all Americans. Dr. Jones also explains the basic laws of economics and behavior that affect health care. He explores the history of our healthcare system, and debunks popular myths that obscure solutions. The problems with Medicare and Obamacare are discussed in the light of history and economics. Compared to other books on healthcare reform, this one is short and easy to read. If there is one book you should read to understand the causes and cures for our healthcare crisis, this is it!

American Healthcare Unchained The History Myths Economics of Health Care Policy Reform edition by Daniel Jones Politics Social Sciences eBooks

Despite the promises that this was an apolitical account of the American Healthcare System, Dr. Jones' ideas and opinions lean strongly to the right, without giving the liberal side much exploration. While he makes some very good points about flaws and possible ways to fix them, he avoids specifics in much of what he discusses. While this may be an effort to explain a complex issue without going over the reader's head, it felt more like he was being evasive and one-sided in his presentation of the facts.

As a writer, I found him to be exceedingly redundant, summing up the main ideas at the end of each chapter only to recap them at the beginning of the next, and almost obsessively repeating phrases like "perverse incentives" and "multitudinous".

All in all, I found it a very interesting argument for one side of the healthcare debate, but it lacked the objectivity that it promises and the specificity to defend it's position.

American Healthcare Unchained The History Myths Economics of Health Care Policy Reform edition by Daniel Jones Politics Social Sciences eBooks Reviews

I bought this after reading The Healing of America by T.R. Reid (excellent book), and I was looking forward to an informed discussion of the American healthcare system. Sadly, all I got was a jumble of Fox News talking points. I would have enjoyed a well-written conservative take on healthcare, but this poorly-researched and rambling collection of analogies and anecdotes was a big disappointment. Look elsewhere for actual information.
I've read the first two chapters. Well researched. Well written. Already interesting and informative. A very different perspective. I recommend it. Stan
I remember the first time I was told that my doctor's office visit was covered by my insurance. I thought, "What? That's a routine expense!" It did not occur to me at the time to wonder how much it was COSTING ME to have my routine office visits covered by my insurance. Evidently, it has cost me quite a bit over the years, according to Dr. Jones' well-researched and clearly written analysis of American healthcare.

Dr. Jones does an excellent job of outlining the history and causes of the current problems with our American healthcare system, and presents a logical and reasonable series of changes that would make the system more efficient, convenient, and affordable to all Americans. I am not a doctor, lawyer, economist, or politician, but an average taxpaying citizen. Dr. Jones' suggestions make sense to me. I think that this book should be required reading for every congressman.
I have read Dr. Jones' book with great interest. With it's clarity of information, and it's descriptive analogies, the book covers the history of health care in the U.S. quite succinctly to my understanding and appreciation. I personally sense the growth of the problems having been born in a Charity Hospital in Louisiana and eventually built my own successful businesses that suffered from over regulation and controls. However, healthcare was not the only issue to bring hardships. Nevertheless, I recommend the book to all who wish to become informed. My congratulations to Dr. Jones!
